Design of a Robot and a 4Axes Intervention Program for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (Lab Autism, in UOM)

Goal: Design of a new Robot for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) should be based upon particular characteristics. Individuals with ASD have language deficiencies, so the name of the Robot should be easy to be pronounced by the child. It should be based on early stages of language development in children. Repetition of a syllabe is often convenient for them (like Baba, Dodo, Panda etc) to pronounce and remember. Colour of the robot should be based on white, grey, black, brown in order co-sensation with other stimuli to be avoided and children to focus on the main meaningful stimulus provided by the Robot.
The 4Axes Intervention Program for Children with Autism with the utilisation of a Robot includes:
First Axis: Emotional Regulation: Creation of feeling of security, self-confidence, relaxation (creation of links with environmental entities, child's self-determination)
Second Axis: Cultivation of Communication (visual indications, variation of signs in size, shape colour)
Third Axis: Development of Social skills (e.g. creation of a routine, prompts, interaction)
Fourth Axis:Mobility (simple gymnastics exercises with the application of wii, prompts (e.g. sit down, walk, raise your hands))
A child could use the Robot alone (personal escort) but also parents siblings and/or teachers could get involved in activities with the child.
